Tephrochronology

Marine environments are settings where sediments and volcanic deposits are well preserved, as they commonly escape the enhanced erosion experienced on land. Gravity coring can recover these sediments, allowing improved reconstruction of eruptive histories. In this project, we investigate the volcanic record of Central America and southern Mexico to better understand eruption recurrence and volcanic impacts on climate.
